Plans For The Home And Garden This Year
Having recently moved to our new home just before Christmas, we have only just really settled what with the mad rush of the move and the festivities. We have so many exciting ideas and plans to get stuck into this year, I just can’t wait to get started!
House plans
- Decide on fabric and make new curtains throughout.
- Turn the dining room into a second sitting room. Make it cosier and introduce a new sofa in there. I eventually want to add a wall-mounted television too.
- Create a gallery wall that features some of my favourite photography.
- Explore themes and decorate the boys rooms.
- Invest in some storage solutions and use them around the home.
- Look into understairs storage with fitted units.
- Replace our existing corner sofa for a new one. I have a few choices in mind already.
- Update the kitchen worktops and flooring.
Garden Plans
I have so many plans for this garden! It is pretty much a blank canvas and hasn’t been maintained at all so I can start from scratch and watch it grow and evolve. I can’t wait! The first garden is quite spacious and has only ever been used to park on which is such a shame.
It is evident that a lot of TLC will be needed, but I have recently discovered moowy.co.uk so I can get all of our lawn care sorted!

The top garden has the weir running through so we have our own huge ready-made water feature! Over the years, there have been some shrubs planted, but most have been neglected and need a lot of care to bring them back to their best.

The weir runs around the back of the house and separates the garden. There is also a paved area at the end of the house that needs a little attention. It will be so nice to make this into a patio and sit there in the summer with a book, unwinding whilst listening to the bubbling of the water!

Here are just a few things I want to be getting on with……
- Plan and dig out borders
- Clear a small area for the greenhouse
- Lay decking to the far end of the garden
- Paint picket fences
- Install hangers for baskets
- Plant shrubs and evergreens for all year round colour
- Install an archway where the garden leads to the top garden. I will most probably train a climbing rose around this.
- Add a birdbath.
- Update my planters to terracotta ones.
- Create a seating area.
Do you have any plans for your home this year?

I love making lists of things that need doing. Your home looks lovely, I actually live next to a canal but I can’t see it because it’s heavily tree lined. I do love the trees though, and you can hear the barges go past occasionally. You seem very happy to be working on your new home, I wish you the best of luck and hope it all goes to plan. #mmbc
It sounds like you have some great plans! I am wanting to do a gallery wall too, in the living room. There’s enough space, we just have to get on with the decorating first. The gardens look fantastic. I bet you are looking forward to getting on with them. They have so much potential. x
Sounds like 2020 is going to be a busy year for you. Look forward to seeing improvements are you make them. #MMBC
Oh wow! What a location and house. Hope you are settling in. Looking forward to seeing your plans turned into reality. #mmbc
Looking forward to seeing what you do with your home and garden. What a stunning setting! #MMBC
Those are some fabulous plans! We’ve been talking about adding a solar panel roof onto our deck but cost-wise we’re not sure how that would go.
